As much as I loved Ghost In The Shell, something's always bothered the hell out of me about the Major. She kicks ass, takes names, and doesn't take crap from no one. And yet why the hell is she dressed like a wannabe sex-doll 99% of the time(you know, the barely-hanging-on white brazier and panty one-piece)?

IMO she's sexier in her combat rig.

Anyone read the second manga? Last couple pages?
Yeah. You know what I'm talking about. Let's see if I can get the old scanner working...

at one point in both the anime and manga they explains why she looks and dresses the way she does: tactical advantage. she proves this in the anime by challenging bato to a match where she then winks and smiles suggestively at him which throws him just long enough for her to get the upper hand.in the mange is further explains how she uses that particular appearance because its how she should look, in theory, if she had never been cyberized. And then even more explanation come from the fact that her frame is totally custom, incorporating parts and abilities that are questionable for even an ex-military cop. (her hacking upgrades in-particular, and in the manga her master control unit which allowed her to multiple bodies simultaneously)

The last and final reason seem to be she just likes a lighter and more flexible frame, bato pokes fun using the fact that he has a much stronger and tougher frame but still rarely wins in direct competition against the major.

same guy again.

it occurs to me that another reason is that its her 'quirk' , all teh full cyborg in the manga and anime have one if what closely. Batou still uses strength training equipment and wont upgrade his ranger issued eyes, Ishikawa's beard and pachninko parlors(which are stated in the manga to not make much money), Pazu's chain chain smoking despite the fact its mentioned that his lungs are artificial(in teh manga) and he gets nothing out of smoking them, Kuze has his unique immovable face.

'Sup /a/, what are you watching at the moment? After finishing Lain again, I've started watching Rideback. It's a pretty interesting concept, although I'm not wildly impressed by the script so far. That said it's beginning to heat up, so hopefully I'll see some ballet-dancing motorcycle robots soon.

I just watched Haibane Renmei and Serial Experiments Lain in the same week, both for the first time.
Of the 40-ish different anime I've seen so far, I'd say there were at most 1 or 2 which played in the same league of quality as those two.
Thanks for telling me about Despera, now I've got something to look forward to!

Must say that the manga was slightly more plausible then the somewhat "OMFG!? WHO CAME UP WITH THIS GAY SCRIPT?" anime version.

But, some how I just take it for granted these days that the fubar the storyline for the sake of a 12/24 episode format T_T (or just because the script writer felt he had to change shit)

Still have to rewatch ep 6 and 7 before it starts to make sense to me...

But so far the only good stuff I have seen in 2009, both in animation quality as in story wise...

Guess I'm to demanding....

What a weird idea. instead of just a plain-old textbook teaching you shit, here's a manga that teaches you about relational database design by telling a story about a princess needing to get her shit together and a database fairy helping her out.

Apparently, the series of books this is a part of is hugely popular in Japan (go figure)

Does /a/ prefer Dubs or Subs?

pic technically unrelated, but not completely... lol

Nearly all english language dubs are made by canada, usually by all the sme voice actors because the industry is so insular. For instance, Steve Blum voices at least 3 differenct characters in every gundam series. In the dub for Char's Counterattack, one person dub EVERY civillian working for a space shuttle company... from the receptionist to the pilot/copilot and mechanics.

Dubs actually made by america are few and far between, but usually MUCH better than canadian ones. Armitage is a good example, though I can't think of anything recent.

Dubs, assuming they aren't awful. It's not like lip-syncing matters in anime.

The first season was...phenomenal.

The second season had its moments, but it quickly lost the charm of the first season.

so i've been watching Aria for some time now. after i finished the three series (and the majestic OVA) i just started it over again. but there's one thing i'd like to know: just what kind of place is "Man-Home" (or earth)? we hear a few tidbits throughout the series but i feel rather uninformed. maybe the manga sheds more light? anyways, what's the deal Man-Home?
