So I'm building a massive Rapidshit/MU upload for you guys of apocalyptic music. More of a soundtrack, really, to set a mood.

It's mainly some dark ambient, mellow industrial, etc.

Artists I have so far...
Robert Rich & B. Lustmord (from their album "Stalker"), Negură Bunget, 20_SV, Coil, Hecq, Blackfilm, and Inon Zur's work for Fallout 3.
...so it's pretty much all without lyrics except for Coil's "A Cold Cell" (a translation of a Siberian prisoner's hymn).

Was thinking about putting on some non-instrumental pieces...maybe APC's cover of "Imagine", I'm not sure.

Thoughts? Things to add?

It's in FLAC, btw.

>GY!BE

How the hell did I forget about them?! They're totally going on.

Ulver is intriguing, I will have to dig deeper with them after training.

Sunn 0))) may go on, I if we're going for the post-rock, might as well have the mellow blackmetalish stuff too - like them all the same though.

>>674

Sorry, Sep, I don't think I can use any of those. In my opinion metal does not "set the mood" here.

Why don't you throw together the metal side; I'll stick with the ambient, post-rock, and experimental eh?

This one's mandatory, by the way, it's easily on par with the "Stalker" album.

erm...is all of this some crappy form of industrial/techno or other, like the last batch of stuff you recommended, BB?

I just can't stand most of that...and I don't get how it's "apocalyptic" There won't be synths and digital systems after the collapse. We'll have drums and acoustic guitars.

How about some Manson?

BB is right, better than the Stalker album!

>>680

Probably because it's designed as mood music and soundtrack stylings rather than songs about the apocalypse like the crap Sep suggested.

I really don't feel industrial makes for a good soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic environment.
Try some trip-hop, or ambient. Hit up bands like Portishead.

Sure is!

>>707
>Try some trip-hop, or ambient.

I've been avoiding a lot of the industrial in lieu of dark ambient to be honest. Hell, 90% of the stuff I've used is ambient of some form, with some light usage of post-rock.

What could be interpreted as industrial is so light and mellow that it's almost, if not is, dark ambient.

Portishead though? Too busy and synthesized. Might have better luck with Massive Attack, but...while I like acid jazz/trip hop, I don't see anything apocalyptic in it.

NIN's Ghosts I-IV, quite good stuff.

Seconded. Trent seems to be moving in a more ambient direction - even with ''The Slip".

Also, BB has made some awesome recommendations.

Personally I think some dubstep would fit in perfectly, it's hard to recommend as it's all pretty varied stuff.
But erm, I think this would fit in:

Okay non dubstep tunes
Leon - Noon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HLtxkUjy-g&feature=channel_page

Various Productions - Fly
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOIFZf6mUwc&feature=channel_page

Also, you need some classical
Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights ?

And you definitely need this
Rite of Spring

By the way, the albums I've been compiling, I'll be uploading them onto a blog if/when people want them.

>>804
>dubstep

You know, I had been considering stuff like that, a lot of minimal trance and mellow psytrance as well, but like you said it's so varied that it's hard to zero in on specifics.

Since you brought up Prokofiev AND Leon, I thought you might like this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUXLpr5lLns
...not postapocalyptic, but my favorite of Prokofiev.
Classical is something I've yet to really feel out for this soundtrack.

>Stalker - 1979 theme
Now THIS I need to get ahold of! I wasn't really impressed by the movie, I thought it lacked any substance that Roadside Picnic had, but was a great atmosphere...including the soundtrack.
Any torrents out there where one could get it?

I'm liking you more and more buckyballs, dubstep, weapons, post-apoc, classical, and a fan of Tarkovsky!

I think it would be nice to mix genres a bit, give different feels to parts of the album, like...Fantasia?

Stalker absolutely blew me away, then again I was stoned. I couldn't stand 2001 a space odyssey, but I was sober then.

I'll start listening to some dubstep, and I'll remember the tracks that sound fitting.

Fuck, I've got the film on HD but I can't find the torrent I got it from, infact I might have got it from a rapidshare soundtrack, I'll be kinda busy for a bit.

Damn Stansfield is a cool bastard.

I'll try watching the movie stoned. I'm surprised how many people compare it to 2001 though. Why is that?
Its pace and overall silence through the movie?

I'll rewatch Stalker whilst high soon. When I did it last I was watching it piece by piece on YouTube, so...that's probably why I didn't like it as much.

>I might have got it from a rapidshare soundtrack

That would be awesome! All I can ever get a crawl for are the soundtracks for the games, which are good! Along with Inon Zur's work for Fallout 3 I definitely have been giving them lots of listening time (more than I've been playing), but I doubt either will end up on this soundtrack.

Still, I'd like to compare the movie's score to Robert Rich & Lustmord's "Stalker" album (inspired more by Roadside Picnic I think). Which is still one of my dark ambient favorites.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0riqUTuIt-0
Quality isn't as good as the 192kbps you DL it in, but...still damn good.

So far I've collected 382 songs from various sources ranging from games, movies, and the plethora of dark ambient and post rock to be found on internet blogs.

If you haven't gone to Rosemary Locale yet, Madcat, I HIGHLY recommend it.

>Its pace and overall silence through the movie?
that with the really long musical shots

Searching for Eduard Artemiev might help

Now for dubstep, I remember who's perfect for this now, Burial, and possibly Distance, a lot of their tracks would definitely suit this theme.

Rosemary locale? I don't have a fraking clue

Personally I see some darker Americana and folk as good post-apocolyptic music. It has that 'desert/pioneer' feel, and lacks the 'yea, the machines that made this don't exist anymore' feel. Not that there's anything wrong with a good bit of ambient.

Panzer AG - Chemical Breed (though a good portion of the rest of the album 'This is my Battlefield' would count too).
-Some of his album 'Your World is Burning' too, but I think it has a more strip club Rob Zombie feel.

VNV Nation - Chosen from 'Praise the Fallen' but it is more of a spoken word piece

Some Tom Waits for sure, especially Bone Machine.
"Earth Died Screaming"? Totally.

>>992
>Panzer AG

Actually a pretty good suggestion, but it gets into that Manson-style of pop-industrial that I usually try to avoid. Difference being that Panzer AG is listenable.
Most industrial? No sir, no.
Doesn't really fit.

Hell, the VNV bit you suggested fits more, not about the lyrics so much as the mood...bonus points for both, which I think the VNV song does.
